The Writer's Garret presents Writers' Block: "Poets are Funny, Too" with Laura Walton. Walton is a writer and visual artist living in Hubbard, Texas. She has won several awards for poetry and has numerous publications in local and national journals. She is currently a Senior CAMP counselor in the Writer's Garret's CAMP program. Vaughn is a talented poet who teaches creative writing at the Hockaday School. Venus Opal Reese is an internationally recognized playwright and spoken word performer currently teaching at the University of Texas at Dallas. Wednesday, Apr. 12, at 7:30 p.m. The Writer's Garret celebrates National Poetry Month 2006 with a special tribute honoring Dallas poet Robert Trammell.Trammell is founding director of WordSpace, a North Texas literary organization dedicated to the use of imaginative language and its creators working in traditional and experimental forms. Now a decade old, WordSpace has presented hundreds of events -- seminars, concerts, open readings, and an annual summer literary festival, "Texas UnBound." Bob still lives and writes in East Dallas and is a long-time friend of the bookstore. If memory serves us well, his first poem was published in Southwest Review, as was his most recently published short story. Sunday, May 21, at 7:00 p.m. WordSpace presents Bruce Bond & Mary Anne Mayer Redmond. Bond is poetry editor for American Literary Review and teaches at the University of North Texas. Redmond has an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Vermont College and has had poems published in various small magazines.
