Sunday, April 1, 5-7 PM The Writer's Garret National Poetry Month Reading Readings and performances by Jack Myers, Michael Guinn, David Ray Vance, Anthony Douglas, Martha Heimberg, and Janean Livingston. JACK MYERS (Texas Poet Laureate 2003-2004) is SMU professor of Creative Writing and author of more than 16 books of and about poetry. MICHAEL GUINN is Founder and Captain of the Fort Worth Slam Team and the author of more than 10 poetry chapbooks and three Spoken Word CDs. DAVID RAY VANCE is the author of Vitreous (2007), winner of the 2005 Del Sol Press Prize, Co-Editor of the journal American Letters & Commentary, and Assistant Professor at UT San Antonio. ANTHONY DOUGLAS survived drug addiction and gang violence and is now an accomplished slam poet and co-host of the Fort Worth Poetry Slams. MARTHA HEIMBERG is Assistant Professor of English at Northwood University in Cedar Hill, Texas, creative writing instructor at Richland College and arts critic for Dallas Weekly. JANEAN LIVINGSTON tied for first place in the 2005 National Poetry Slam.

April 23 - "Martian Poetry (a Surrealist English style from the '70s and '80s)," with Prof. Hunter Hayes. April 30 - "The Dean of Contemporary British Poetry: Carol Ann Duffy," with Prof. Russ Greer. Friday, April 20, 7:30 PM "Vermont Comes to Texas" Reading VICTORIA REDEL teaches at Sarah Lawrence College, Columbia University, and Vermont College. She has two books of poetry,a collection of short fiction, Where the Road Bottoms Out, and a novel, Loverboy, which was directed by Kevin Bacon and premiered last year at the Sundance Film Festival. RALPH ANGEL is the award-winning author of four collections of poetry and Distinguished Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Redlands and Vermont College. ![]() May is Texas Writers' Month! Sunday, July 8, at 3 p.m. WRITERS' BLOCK: RACHEL YEATTS, Ph.D., ON "MEMOIR AS GENRE" The Writer's Garret partners with Professor's Corner to present this discussion focusing on Chapter 5 of TEACHER MAN, by Frank McCourt. Reading in advance is encouraged but not necessary. Dr. Yeatts is Assistant Director of the Writing Lab at the University of North Texas where she also teaches creative writing and literature.
